Thinking about a post I read yesterday at SocialMediaToday on Social Networking’s Field of Dreams where it’s explored “if I build it (a social network) will they come to it?”
Scene from Field of Dreams
In one of my favorite movies, “Field of Dreams,” the main character Ray Kinsella struggles with the idea of building a baseball diamond in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa. Questioning his sanity, he does so with the assurances from a voice that tells him: “If you build it, they will come.” In the end, he is amply rewarded.
Hmmm …Where have I run into that issue lately?
Right ….. I’m living that issue right now with the Web Analytics Association’s new Social Network – WAASOCIAL which lives at http://waasocial.webanalyticsassociation.org.
The post at SocialMediaToday is pretty good about what you need to do to build and sustain a community – like the community of Web Analysts that my Social Media Committee at the WAA is trying to do (and we can use your help by joining WAASOCIAL):
Just go to WAASOCIAL and join or login.
I tried to put a widget on this blog post but it doesn’t seem to work here - that functionality in hosted wordpress must be disabled somehow.
And the steps in the blog post that I’m talking about here – we’re living though all that – figuring it out as we go – which is exciting but also makes me want to pause and figure out if we’re missing something.
Anyway, any feedback is appreciated.
